Untangling and Simplifying Issues from the lens of a Filipino-American Educator

My brother suddenly died in the Philippines when we were in the middle of taking care of my late mother’s estate. A few days later, the worldwide quarantine began on March 2020. I had no choice but to figure out how to do our family paperwork from the USA. It was like having another full-time job so I decided to share what I was learning in a YouTube channel and it expanded to other topics. I decided to limit my topics to three:

  1. Teaching - Teaching Success via Zooming IN and OUT

  2. Paperwork - How to Deal with Family Paperwork especially from Abroad

  3. Travel - Philippine Travel Tips for Ease, Safety and Saving Money

Disclaimer and Who I Am

All posts are for informational purposes only. It is up to you to decide what to do about it. But why should you take time to read them? Well, let me introduce myself. I am an educator with formal legal research training. I was a corporate newsletter editor in the Philippines who became a SPED teacher when my son was diagnosed with autism. This enabled me to bring him to the USA where my family stayed ever since.

Note: to keep the privacy of my family, especially when I write about family paperwork, I will use only my first name.

Falling Back to My Legal Training

When I was trying to untangle my family paperwork during the pandemic, I tried to get Philippine-based lawyers to help me. A few times, consultation prices went up when they found out I am in the USA. Other times, they dismissed my case as too complicated. I was forced to fall back into my legal training. You see, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Legal Management from Ateneo de Manila. It was a preparatory degree for those who want to be corporate lawyers. I read law books and was exposed to major aspects of Philippine law. But that was years ago so I decided to undergo the Paralegal Training Program under the UP Law Center and successfully completed it on December 2022. It was run by experienced Philippine lawyers and professors. As a bonus, I was able to ask questions concerning my family estate, banking and other issues I faced. Now I am ready to share what I learned (or still learning) to you my dear readers. Please note that I am NOT a lawyer but just an avid legal researcher who wants to share what I discovered to you, my dear readers, for educational purposes only. Check this page so you’ll know the current series or my next topics.
